AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Interstat) — East Suburbs W opened its National Women’s League season with a 2-0 victory over Western Springs W on Sunday at Mount Smart Stadium.

Forward Miguel Merentiel scored both goals, finding the net in the 28th and 46th minutes to lead the home side. The result defied the pre-match projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 1-1 draw. East Suburbs W begins the campaign with a win, while Western Springs W starts with a loss.
