LIBERIA, Costa Rica (Interstat) — Shabab Al Ahli delivered a dominant performance to defeat Al Jazira 5-1 in a UAE League Cup match Monday at Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño. The result defied a pregame projection that favored Shabab Al Ahli by a narrower margin.

Al Jazira took an early lead with goals from Abdalla Ramadan in the 27th minute and Achraf Bencharki in the 32nd. Shabab Al Ahli responded with a second-half onslaught. Substitute Yahya Al Ghassani sparked the comeback in the 55th minute, followed by Federico Cartabia’s equalizer five minutes later. The home side added three unanswered goals to seal the victory.

Bencharki received a yellow card for Al Jazira, which fell to 0-1 in the competition. Shabab Al Ahli improved to 1-0.
