QUETZALTENANGO, Guatemala (Interstat) — Juan Luis Cardona Luna’s 58th-minute goal lifted Xelaju to a 1-0 victory over Malacateco in Liga Nacional play on Saturday at Estadio Mario Camposeco.

The match, part of the league’s third week, was a physical affair featuring eight yellow cards. Malacateco received four, including an early booking to Wilson Ariel Godoy Gudiel in the 21st minute. Cardona Luna, who scored the decisive goal, was also cautioned for Xelaju in the 48th minute.

The result improved Xelaju’s season record in the competition. Malacateco’s losing streak extended to four matches. The win followed the statistical projection favoring Xelaju, though the narrow margin defied a simulator’s predicted draw.
