KAA Gent II vs URSL Visé

OLBIA, Italy (Interstat) — A chaotic and card-filled Belgian domestic match played on neutral ground in Italy saw URSL Vise edge KAA Gent B 3-2 on Saturday in the opening week of the First Amateur Division season.

The game, contested at Stadio Bruno Nespoli in Olbia, Sardinia, defied pre-match projections. Statistical models had favored Gent B to win, but Vise capitalized on a critical first-half red card to secure a victory in its league opener.

Vise struck first in the 7th minute, with midfielder Marten Wilmots finding the net for an early lead. Gent B responded before the half-hour mark, leveling the score in the 24th minute through a goal from attacker Ibrahim Salah.

The match’s pivotal moment arrived in first-half stoppage time. Gent B was reduced to 10 men in the 45+1 minute when Robbie Van Hauter was shown a straight red card. Vise immediately punished the disadvantage, as defender Axel Bonemme scored from the ensuing play in the 45+3 minute to reclaim a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Despite being a man down, Gent B equalized again shortly after the restart. Attacker Malick Martin Fofana made it 2-2 in the 52nd minute. The comeback was short-lived, however, as Vise’s Wilmots scored his second goal of the game just five minutes later, in the 57th minute, to seal the 3-2 victory.

The contest was marred by discipline issues, featuring a total of six yellow cards and two reds. Alongside Van Hauter’s dismissal for Gent B, Vise also finished with 10 men after Jonathan Kevin Hendrickx received a red card in the 78th minute. Wilmots, one of the goal-scoring heroes for Vise, was also booked in the second half.

The result gives URSL Vise a winning start to its First Amateur Division campaign, moving its record to one win and no losses. The club’s strong form continues across all competitions, where it now has two wins in two matches this season, including a prior penalty shootout victory in cup play.

For KAA Gent B, the reserve side of the Belgian top-flight club, the loss marks a setback after an undefeated start in other matches. Its record in the league now stands at one win, one loss and one draw. Across all competitions, Gent B has one win, one loss and one draw.

Key performances included Vise’s Bonemme, a defender from Liège, Belgium, who played the full 90 minutes and scored a crucial goal, and Wilmots, who delivered a brace. For Gent B, Salah and Fofana provided the offensive output with a goal each in the losing effort.

The match was organized as part of the BEL: First Amateur Division, the fourth tier of football in Belgium.
