Al Kharitiyath vs Al Shahaniya
(Interstat) — A dramatic stoppage-time equalizer forced a share of the points as Al Kharitiyath and Al Shahaniya played to a 1-1 draw in a Qatar Second Division match Monday.
The Week 14 fixture, contested at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in Girona, Spain, saw the visiting Al Shahaniya snatch a late goal to deny Al Kharitiyath a victory that had seemed increasingly likely as the match entered its final moments.
The result leaves both teams seeking their first win of the Second Division campaign. Al Shahaniya’s record in the competition now stands at one win, one draw and zero losses. Al Kharitiyath’s record adjusts to zero wins, one loss and one draw. Their overall records across all competitions mirror those Second Division tallies.
The match, played on Jan. 26, 2026, unfolded as a tense and physical affair, with eight yellow cards issued by the officiating crew. The cautions began early, with Al Shahaniya’s Thomas Lemar booked in the 17th minute and teammate Domingos Duarte seeing a yellow in the 25th.
The deadlock was broken just before the hour mark. In the 59th minute, Al Shahaniya’s Luis Vázquez, who had entered the match as a substitute, found the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The assist on the opening goal was credited to midfielder Fran Beltrán.
Al Kharitiyath, playing as the home side, pushed for an equalizer as the second half progressed. The pursuit grew more frantic, leading to a flurry of yellow cards in the final 10 minutes of regulation and stoppage time. Al Kharitiyath’s Àlex Moreno was cautioned in the 80th minute, followed by teammate Mario Martín in the 83rd and Fran Beltrán for Al Shahaniya in the 87th.
Just as it appeared Al Shahaniya would see out the narrow victory, deep into added time, Al Kharitiyath delivered a pivotal response. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, defender Vitor Reis scored a crucial goal to level the match at 1-1. The assist on the dramatic equalizer was provided by substitute Mario Martín.
The frantic conclusion continued even after the goal, with Al Shahaniya’s Joel Roca receiving a yellow card in the 90th minute and teammates Vladyslav Vanat and Martín Satriano booked in the sixth and second minutes of stoppage time, respectively. Satriano was also credited with an assist on his team’s earlier goal.
The final outcome aligned with the pre-match projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. However, it contradicted the organization’s ELO system, which had given Al Kharitiyath a 72.80 percent probability of securing a victory on the day.
The draw provides each team with a single point as they continue their seasons in the Qatari second tier.
