WIL, St. Gallen (Interstat) — Comoros U20 opened its season with a 2-1 victory over Panama U23 on Saturday at Lidl Arena in a match organized by Switzerland’s 1. Liga Classic.

Zaïd Amir gave the visitors the lead in the 27th minute. Ricardo Antonio Phillips Hinds equalized for Panama before halftime in the 43rd. Comoros defender Assad Maoulida scored the decisive goal just after the break in the 48th minute.

The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored the Panamanian side. Panama’s Ángel Gabriel Orelien González received a yellow card in the 57th minute as part of a match that saw his team receive six cautions overall.

With the win, Comoros U20 begins the competition with a 1-0 record, while Panama U23 starts 0-1.
