Atlético Tucumán Reserves Stun Vélez Sársfield in Saudi Arabia With Four-Goal Performance
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of expectations, Atlético Tucumán Reserves defeated Vélez Sársfield Reserves 4-1 on Thursday in a Week 8 Argentine Reserve League match played at Kingdom Arena.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-0 win for Vélez, which held a 93.1% pregame probability to win. Instead, the home side dominated. Fashon Sakala opened the scoring in the 14th minute, followed by a Sergej Milinković-Savić goal in the 37th. Rúben Neves added a corner goal just before halftime.
Mohamed Kanno extended the lead in the 61st. Marcos Leonardo scored a header in the 90th minute, immediately after Vélez’s Khaled Al Rammah received a yellow card. Neves was also booked during the sequence. Vélez’s lone reply was a 45th-minute header from Mohamed Kanno.
The result gives Atlético Tucumán Reserves a winning start to their reserve league campaign, while Vélez Sársfield Reserves begin with a loss.
