AHVAZ, Iran (Interstat) — Aboubakary Koita scored in the 86th minute to give Sint-Truiden a 1-0 victory over Standard Liege on Friday in the Belgian First Division A opener for both clubs.

The match, played at Ghadir Stadium, saw a disallowed goal for Standard Liege in the 58th minute when Amir Hossein Jalalivand’s strike was ruled offside. Koita’s decisive finish came from an assist by defender Kangni Frederic Ananou. Sint-Truiden improved its strong season record while Standard Liege began its campaign with a loss. The result defied a pregame statistical projection of a draw.
