Vardanyan Scores Four as Vitebsk Routs Shakhtyor Petrikov in Belarusian League Match
PETRYKAŮ, Belarus (Interstat) — Karen Vardanyan scored four goals Saturday to power visiting Vitebsk to a 7-1 victory over Shakhtyor Petrikov in a Belarusian First Division match at Stadyen FOK Prypiać.
Vardanyan, a midfielder from Baliny, netted goals in the 43rd, 50th, 57th and 62nd minutes. His performance keyed a dominant second half after Nikolay Sotnikov had given the hosts an early lead in the 27th minute.
Substitutes Anton Matveenko and Frol Panarin added late goals for Vitebsk in the 72nd and 82nd minutes, respectively. Shakhtyor Petrikov received yellow cards for Aleksey Garost and Mark Tychko.
The result improved Vitebsk’s league record. Interstat’s pregame projection had favored Vitebsk to win narrowly.
