AVELLANEDA, Argentina (Interstat) — Independiente Res earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Godoy Cruz Res on Saturday in Week 19 of Argentina’s Reserve League at Predio Independiente. Defender Muhannad Al Shanqiti scored the game’s lone goal in the 50th minute, finishing a play assisted by Ahmed Sharahili. Sharahili and substitute Moustapha Sembene, who also recorded an assist on the goal, each received yellow cards shortly after the score. The result gave Independiente Res a winning start to its league campaign, while Godoy Cruz Res began with a defeat. The outcome defied a pregame statistical projection of a draw, though Independiente Res was a heavy favorite to win according to predictive models.
