Spezia vs Torino
LA SPEZIA, Italy (Interstat) — Torino delivered a devastating attacking performance, routing Spezia 5-1 on Sunday in a Serie A match that was effectively decided in a chaotic two-minute span in the first half.
The comprehensive victory at Stadio Alberto Picco in Week 37 of Italy’s top flight saw Torino rebound emphatically from a difficult run of form, while Spezia’s defensive frailties were exposed in a match that quickly spiraled out of their control.
The contest turned decisively in the 24th minute. Torino defender Przemysław Wiśniewski broke the deadlock, and before the home side could regroup, Wilfried Stephane Singo doubled the advantage mere moments later. The rapid one-two punch left Spezia stunned and set the tone for the remainder of the match.
Play was physical from the outset, with Spezia’s Albin Ekdal and Torino’s Ivan Ilić receiving yellow cards in the 11th and 16th minutes, respectively. Spezia struggled to mount a meaningful response to Torino’s early burst, and the visitors controlled the tempo for much of the game.
Torino put the result beyond any doubt with a second-half flurry. Midfielder Samuele Ricci made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute, assisted by Nikola Vlašić. Just four minutes later, Ilić, who had been booked earlier, redeemed himself with a goal, again from a Vlašić assist, to extend the lead to 4-0.
Spezia managed a late consolation goal, but any hope of a dramatic comeback was extinguished deep into stoppage time. In the sixth minute of added time, Yann Dorgelès Isaac Karamoh completed the rout for Torino, scoring the fifth goal off an assist from Arnaldo Antonio Sanabria Ayala. Singo received a second yellow card in the 69th minute, but Torino’s dominance was never threatened.
The lopsided scoreline defied the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. Their ELO system, however, had given Torino a 62.3 percent probability to win, a forecast vindicated by the commanding display.
The result improves Torino’s Serie A record to 12 wins, 17 losses and 9 draws this season. Their record across all competitions now stands at 17 wins, 17 losses and 9 draws. For Spezia, the defeat marks another low point in a difficult campaign, leaving them with a league record of 3 wins, 6 losses and 6 draws. Their overall record across all competitions falls to 10 wins, 19 losses and 10 draws.
Torino will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Pisa in Serie A play next Sunday. Spezia, meanwhile, will attempt to regroup with a match away at Carrarese on Monday.
