FREIBURG, Germany (Interstat) — Wolfsburg held off a late surge from Freiburg to secure a 3-2 away victory in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

The visitors built a commanding three-goal lead before Freiburg’s substitutes sparked a comeback. Christian Günter scored in the 71st minute and Nils Petersen added another in the 75th, both assisted by Roland Sallai. The rally stalled, and Freiburg finished with 10 men after Nicolas Höfler received a red card in second-half stoppage time.

Wolfsburg improved its league record to nine wins. Freiburg’s season record in the competition fell to two wins. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored Freiburg.
