VARESE, Italy (Interstat) — Tommaso Baldasso scored 17 points to lead Virtus Bologna past Varese 90-69 on Sunday in an Italian Lega Basket Serie A game at PalaWhirlpool. Derrick Alston Jr. also scored 17 for Virtus Bologna, which improved to 1-1. Davide Alviti led Varese with 14 points. Kessler Donovan Edwards added 12 points and six rebounds, Marcus Carr had 11 points and six assists, and Hunter Hale scored 11 for Varese. Bobi Klintman contributed seven points, five rebounds and two blocks, Nate Renfro added eight points and five rebounds for Varese, Daniel Hackett chipped in six points, six rebounds and three assists for Virtus Bologna, and Stefan Nikolic had six points for Varese. Virtus Bologna led 21-18 after the first quarter, 42-37 at halftime and 64-48 after three quarters, then closed it out with a 26-21 fourth quarter. Virtus Bologna outscored Varese 48-32 after halftime. Varese fell to 0-1.
