Leicester at Sheffield

SHEFFIELD (Interstat) — The Leicester Riders will be the visiting team Sunday against the Sheffield Sharks at Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, United Kingdom, in a matchup of teams at opposite ends of the early season standings.

Leicester enters at 0-3. Sheffield is 1-0 after a 98-76 home win over Glasgow. Maceo Jack led the Sharks in that victory with 25 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Adrian Delph added 21 points, four rebounds and four assists. William Lee contributed seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Riders have opened with three losses. Their most recent result was a 78-73 home setback against Bristol Academy. Thomas Hurley had 19 points, five rebounds and two assists in that game, Deante Johnson recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Taryn Todd scored 17 points.

His ability to create offense will be important against a Sheffield team that opened the season with a strong defensive performance.

Leicester’s other defeats this season include a 71-66 loss at London and a 108-94 loss at Cheshire Phoenix. The Riders will look to tighten their defense and find more consistent scoring around Hurley as they try to secure their first win. Leicester has struggled to close out games, with its three losses coming by a combined 24 points.

Sheffield will aim to remain unbeaten. The Sharks were efficient in their opener, getting balanced production from Jack, Delph and Lee. Sheffield will try to use its home court and early-season rhythm to counter Leicester’s urgency. The Sharks will also look to push the pace and take advantage of their depth. The Sharks’ opener showed they can score inside and out.

The teams are scheduled to meet again later in the season, when Sheffield is set to visit Leicester. Before that, both clubs have a series of league games ahead. Leicester’s upcoming slate includes road games against Surrey, London, Glasgow, Newcastle and Liverpool, plus home matchups with Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow. Sheffield is set to face Glasgow, Newcastle, London, Surrey, Cheshire, Liverpool, Leicester and Bristol Academy in its coming stretch.
