Oliveirense at Benfica

LISBON (Interstat) — Oliveirense will put its 1-0 record on the line Saturday when it visits Benfica (5-2) in a basketball game at Pavilhao Imperio Bonanca. Benfica will be the home team for the matchup, which pits Oliveirense’s early-season momentum against a Benfica side that has played a heavier schedule.

Oliveirense opened its season with a 91-82 road win at Portimonense. The team has not played since, and will look to carry that form into a road test against a Benfica team that has already logged seven games. Oliveirense will be playing its second straight road game. Oliveirense’s next game after Saturday is scheduled to be at home against Esgueira. The visitors are then set to travel to CAB Madeira, host Ovarense Dolce Vita, visit Braga, host Vitoria, host Queluz Sintra, visit CD Povoa, host SC Portugal, visit Porto and host Portimonense.

Benfica is 5-2 this season and is 3-1 at home. The team’s most recent result was a 96-91 home win over Denizli Basket. Eugene Crandall was among Benfica’s most productive players in that game, finishing with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Broussard Aaron added 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Luke Barrett contributed 16 points, four rebounds and one assist.

Crandall, a player to watch for Benfica, has been active across recent games. He had 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Denizli Basket. Earlier, he recorded five points, three rebounds and two assists at Bakken Bears, and eight points, three rebounds and four assists against Sporting CP. His all-around play will be a focus as Benfica tries to protect its home court.

Benfica’s other results this season include a 93-86 road loss at Porto, a 91-81 road win at Bakken, an 84-71 home win over Sporting CP, an 88-98 home loss to Vechta, and an 87-78 home win over Geneve. Benfica has won three of its last four games. The team’s schedule has included a mix of domestic and international opponents. Benfica’s next game after Saturday is scheduled to be at home against Prievidza, followed by a road game at Queluz Sintra.

Oliveirense will counter with a shorter resume but a perfect record. The visitors opened with a double-digit win at Portimonense and will aim to stay unbeaten. The game is set for Pavilhao Imperio Bonanca in Lisbon.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Benfica 95, Oliveirense 90. Benfica has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -10.5. The over/under for this game is 167.5.
