VALLADOLID, Spain (Interstat) — Melilla opened its season with a 70-59 road victory over Valladolid on Saturday at Polideportivo Pisuerga. Melilla led 17-15 after the first quarter and stretched its advantage with a 23-point second period, taking a 40-30 halftime lead. Valladolid scored 15 points in each of the first two quarters and trailed by 10 at the break. Melilla added 19 points in the third quarter while holding Valladolid to 17, carrying a 59-47 lead into the final period. In the fourth, Valladolid scored 12 points and Melilla scored 11. Melilla outscored Valladolid 40-30 in the first half and 30-29 after halftime. Melilla’s win came in its season opener, and Valladolid’s loss also opened its season. The visitors led after the first, second and third quarters. Melilla improved to 1-0. Valladolid dropped to 0-1. Melilla will next host Ponferrada. Valladolid will next visit Getafe.
