DUBLIN (Interstat) — UCD Marian defeated visiting Neptune 105-93 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. The game was played at UCD Marian’s home court. Neptune fell to 0-1, while UCD Marian moved to 1-0. UCD Marian opened with 35 points in the first quarter, while Neptune scored 17. Neptune responded with 26 points in the second quarter, and UCD Marian added 15, giving UCD Marian a 50-43 halftime lead. Neptune scored 26 points in the third quarter, but UCD Marian posted 29 to take a 79-69 advantage into the fourth. Neptune added 24 points in the final quarter, and UCD Marian closed with 26. UCD Marian led after every quarter. Neptune’s comeback attempt fell short despite scoring 26 points in each of the second and third quarters. The visitors scored 24 points over the final 10 minutes. UCD Marian will next play on the road, while Neptune will return home.
