ROME (Interstat)—Balkan will visit BC Roma on Tuesday for a basketball game between teams looking to build momentum early in the season.
Balkan enters with a 1-2 record. The visiting team’s most recent result was a 91-66 win at Botev 2012. Earlier this season, Balkan lost 101-60 to Bahcesehir Kol. and fell 98-84 at Ulm.
BC Roma is 2-3. The home team dropped a 96-95 decision at Maxima Roma in its most recent game. BC Roma has defeated Panevezys 92-87 and Tortona 108-70. It also lost 91-78 at Bahcesehir Kol. and 109-94 at Treviso.
Nico Mannion is a player to watch for BC Roma. In his most recent performance, Mannion finished with 24 points, two rebounds and 10 assists while playing 29 minutes. His production has helped BC Roma remain competitive in a demanding early schedule. Arturs Strautins and Corey Davis also contributed for BC Roma in its latest game.
Balkan will try to slow Mannion and the BC Roma offense while leaning on its recent road win. The visitors have shown the ability to score efficiently when they control pace, but they have also struggled defensively in losses to Bahcesehir Kol. and Ulm. Balkan’s 1-2 start includes a strong recent result, and a win Tuesday would even its record.
BC Roma will look to protect home court after a narrow road loss. The team’s 2-3 mark includes a high-scoring win over Tortona and a competitive road effort at Maxima Roma. BC Roma has scored at least 92 points in two of its victories this season. Mannion’s playmaking and scoring give the home side a focal point.
After Tuesday, Balkan is scheduled to host Levski Sofia, host Panevezys, visit Tundja Yambol and host Manresa. Later matchups include CSKA Sofia, Bosna, Spartak Pleven, PAOK, Lok. Plovdiv and Ulm. BC Roma is set to host Venezia, visit Manresa, visit Varese and host Bosna. Its future slate also includes Givova Scafati, PAOK, Trieste 2004, Ulm, Verona and Bahcesehir Kol.
The matchup could hinge on whether Balkan can contain Mannion and force BC Roma into less efficient possessions. Balkan’s recent win provided a needed boost, while BC Roma will aim to avoid a second straight narrow defeat. Both teams are early in their schedules, making the result important for confidence and positioning. The home crowd could play a role in the matchup, and both sides will look to establish rhythm early.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of BC Roma 89, Balkan 83. Interstat’s ELO system gives BC Roma a 50.6 percent probability to win.
