Liverpool at Surrey 89ers

GUILDFORD, United Kingdom (Interstat) — Liverpool will try to make it two wins in a row Saturday when it visits Surrey 89ers at Surrey Sports Park. Liverpool is 1-2 this season, while Surrey 89ers are 0-1.

Liverpool enters off a 73-64 road victory at Manchester. Brandon Tchouya led the way with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes. James Okonkwo added 7 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block, and Tomiwa Sulaiman scored 13 points with 6 rebounds. Those efforts helped Liverpool secure its first win after losses at London and at Glasgow. Liverpool fell 78-49 at London and 78-73 at Glasgow earlier this season. Liverpool has played all three of its games on the road.

Tchouya has been Liverpool’s most productive player during the early schedule. In addition to his 19-point outing at Manchester, he scored 8 points with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block at London, and he added 9 points and 4 rebounds at Caledonia Gladiators. His ability to score and create for others will be central to Liverpool’s attack against Surrey.

Surrey 89ers will look to bounce back from a 79-67 loss at Manchester. Jalen Graham was excellent in that game, posting 22 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 29 minutes. Cayden Charles added 5 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist, while Marreon Jackson finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Surrey will play at home for the first time this season after opening on the road.

Graham is Surrey’s player to watch. He produced a double-double in his lone appearance this season and gave Surrey a strong inside presence. Liverpool will need Okonkwo and Sulaiman to help match Surrey’s physicality near the basket.

The matchup features two teams still finding their rhythm. Liverpool has shown balance, with Tchouya, Okonkwo and Sulaiman all contributing in the recent win. Surrey, meanwhile, will lean on Graham and Jackson to generate offense. The 89ers will also need Charles and their supporting cast to provide additional scoring and rebounding.

After this game, Liverpool is scheduled to visit Bristol Academy before returning home for a stretch that includes games against Newcastle, Cheshire, Manchester, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leicester, London and trips to Cheshire and Newcastle. Surrey 89ers will host Leicester before road games at Newcastle and Cheshire, followed by home dates with Sheffield, Glasgow and Leicester and road contests at Bristol Academy, London and Manchester.
