Verona vs. Rimini
RIMINI, Italy (Interstat) — Verona visits Rimini on Sunday in a key Serie A2 Basket matchup at PalaFlaminio, with both teams jockeying for playoff positioning. Verona (32-15) holds the better record, while Rimini (29-21) looks to build on a series-altering win in the most recent meeting between the clubs.
The teams met just two days ago, with Rimini taking an 82-70 victory at home on Friday. That result snapped a four-game Verona winning streak in the head-to-head series, which now stands at 4-1 in Verona’s favor this season. In that Friday contest, Rimini forward Pierpaolo Marini led all scorers with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes. Teammates Ivan Alipiev added 16 points and five boards, and Giovanni Tomassini chipped in 13 points.
For Verona, center Andrea Loro recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes in the loss. Loro has been a consistent force, averaging 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last five games, including a pair of wins over Rimini on June 7 and June 9. In those two home victories, Loro posted 12 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-76 win, then six points and three rebounds in an 84-74 triumph.
Marini has been Rimini’s catalyst. In the Friday win, he followed up a modest seven-point outing in a loss at Verona on June 9 with a strong all-around performance. Over his last five games, Marini is averaging 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists. He also had 18 points and four assists in a May 28 win over Cividale.
