Inter Bratislava vs. Levicki Patrioti
LEVICE, Slovakia (Interstat) — The Slovakian Extraliga’s playoff semifinal series between Inter Bratislava and Levicki Patrioti reaches a pivotal Game 5 on Friday at Sportova hala Levice.
Top-seeded Levicki Patrioti (45-13 overall) leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 after Monday’s 69-65 road win over Inter Bratislava. A victory Friday would send the home team to the finals. Inter Bratislava (32-19) must win to extend the series.
The teams have split the first four games, with three decided by six points or fewer. The lone blowout came May 21, when Levicki won 93-72 at home. The road team has won two of the four games, including Inter’s 73-66 victory on May 19.
Forward Andre Wesson has been key for Levicki Patrioti. In Monday’s win, he logged 38 minutes with 17 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block. Over his last four playoff games, Wesson is averaging 13.5 points and 7.8 rebounds. He scored 29 points with six rebounds in a 105-78 win over Prievidza on May 2.
Guard Christian James leads Inter Bratislava. He posted 18 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes on Monday. In the series, James has been consistent, averaging 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds across four games. He recorded a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds in consecutive games against Nitra Blue Wings earlier in the playoffs, though Inter lost one of those.
Inter Bratislava’s recent form shows inconsistency. After dropping three straight to Levicki, they rebounded with a 79-65 win over Nitra on May 11, only to lose the next two before the narrow defeat Monday. Levicki Patrioti has won 10 of its last 12 games overall, including a 77-66 win at Prievidza on May 6.
The series has been physical. In the past eight meetings between the teams dating to last November, Levicki holds a 7-1 advantage. The lone Inter win was the 73-66 game on May 19.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.
