Levicki Patrioti vs. Inter Bratislava

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (Interstat) — The Slovakian Extraliga’s top two teams collide Tuesday afternoon when Levicki Patrioti visits Inter Bratislava at Sportova hala Bratislava, a matchup that could have significant postseason implications.

Levicki Patrioti (43-12) enters on a five-game winning streak and has dominated the season series against Inter Bratislava (31-17), winning all five meetings this year, including an 85-72 victory Sunday at home. The Patrioti have not lost to Inter since a 95-80 win Dec. 30 — a stretch of five straight wins by an average of 12.6 points.

Tuesday’s game marks the sixth encounter between the clubs this season. Levicki also won 83-71 on March 27, 80-70 on Feb. 7 and 86-73 on Nov. 1.

Guard Rickey McGill has been the engine for Levicki’s recent success. In four playoff games against Prievidza, McGill averaged 25.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists while shooting efficiently. He posted a near triple-double in a 77-66 win May 6 (17 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists) and scored 34 points on April 29. McGill’s ability to create for himself and others has made Levicki’s offense difficult to contain; the Patrioti have scored at least 94 points in their last seven games.

Inter Bratislava, despite the lopsided season series, has shown flashes of resilience. Guard Christian James is the primary threat, averaging 14.0 points and 6.6 rebounds over his last seven games. James recorded double-doubles in three of those contests, including a 25-point, 10-rebound effort in a 77-62 win over Nitra Blue Wings on May 5. However, Inter’s inconsistency has plagued them — they split their last four games, alternating wins and losses.

The home team will need to contain Levicki’s pace. Patrioti are 23-4 on the road this season and have won 10 of their last 11 away from home. Inter’s home record stands at 16-7, but they lost their only home game against Levicki this season, 80-70 on Feb. 7.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time. The winner strengthens its position atop the Extraliga standings, while the loser faces a harder path to the title.
