Rapid Bucuresti vs. Pitesti

PITEȘTI, Romania (Interstat) — Rapid București visits Pitesti on Friday, May 15, in a Romanian Divizia A matchup at Stadionul Trivale Pitesti. Rapid (20-14) enters as the hotter team, while Pitesti (16-17) looks to snap a three-game losing streak.

Rapid comes off a 96-77 home win over Pitesti on May 11, its third victory in the past four meetings between the sides. The visitors have won two straight overall after a 2-3 stretch. Key to that success has been guard Roman Penn, who posted 21 points, five rebounds and three assists in that May 11 win. Over his past seven games, Penn has averaged 15.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists, though he struggled with turnovers in defeats earlier this month.

Pitesti, meanwhile, has lost four consecutive games, including a 104-95 home defeat to Valcea on Wednesday. The team’s last win came April 18 against Targu Mures in overtime. Forward Kendall Lewis has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds over his last five outings. In the May 11 loss to Rapid, he recorded 16 points and seven rebounds.

The head-to-head history favors Rapid, which has won two of the three meetings this season. The lone Pitesti win came Dec. 13, 91-86 at home. In that game, Pitesti held Rapid to 42% shooting and forced 15 turnovers. Friday’s rematch will test whether Pitesti can replicate that defensive effort.

Rapid’s depth was on display May 11, with Isiah Osborne adding 20 points and Constantin Gavriloaia 15. The team’s ability to score inside and from the perimeter gives it an edge. Pitesti will need Lewis to continue his double-double threat and improve perimeter defense to contain Penn.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
