AP Sports Preview
ANKARA, Türkiye (Interstat) — Gaziantep hosts Konyaspor on Sunday at M. Sait Zarifoglu SS in a Turkish TBL matchup that pits the league’s second-best record against a playoff-chasing opponent.
Gaziantep enters with a 27-8 mark, while Konyaspor sits at 23-12. The game tips off at 7 p.m. local time.
Gaziantep guard Nemanja Nenadic has been a catalyst, averaging 24 points, four rebounds and seven assists in an 90-78 win over Kahramanmaras on Wednesday. In his last five games, Nenadic has scored at least 11 points four times, including a 24-point outburst. He also posted 14 points and three assists in a 74-64 road win at Kahramanmaras on May 3.
Konyaspor forward Chris Coffey is coming off a double-double — 12 points and 11 rebounds — in a 91-63 rout of Fenerbahce Koleji on Wednesday. Coffey has scored 22 points with eight rebounds in a 102-80 win over the same opponent on April 30. He is Konyaspor’s top rebounder and a key two-way presence.
The teams split their previous two meetings this season. Gaziantep won 81-71 at home on Jan. 26, while Konyaspor prevailed 84-79 on Oct. 5.
Gaziantep has won three of its last four games. In Wednesday’s victory, Zeljko Sakic added 25 points and nine rebounds, and Emir Sivas contributed 12 points and seven assists. Gaziantep’s only loss in that stretch came at Kahramanmaras 103-97 on April 18.
Konyaspor has alternated wins and losses over its past four contests. After beating Fenerbahce Koleji by 22 points on April 30, it lost 98-93 on the road to the same team May 3. Wednesday’s win evened its recent record at 2-2.
Both teams rely on balanced scoring. Gaziantep’s depth has helped it secure nine wins in its last 12 outings. Konyaspor, meanwhile, has had inconsistent production from its bench but can count on Coffey and point guard New Williams, who posted 17 points and seven assists in the May 6 win.
Sunday’s game carries playoff implications. A win for Gaziantep would strengthen its hold on second place in the TBL standings. For Konyaspor, a victory would keep it within striking distance of the top four and build momentum ahead of a final regular-season push.
