Ústí nad Labem vs. Opava

OPAVA, Czechia (Interstat) — The Czech NBL’s regular season reaches a critical juncture Saturday when Opava hosts Ústí nad Labem at Hala Opava, with both teams jockeying for playoff positioning.

Ústí nad Labem (22-16 overall) enters with a slight edge in the standings, but Opava (19-17) has traded wins with its rival in three meetings over the past month. The clubs split a two-game set Wednesday and Tuesday in Ústí nad Labem, with the visitors winning 93-86 on Wednesday after dropping the opener 98-85.

Saturday’s matchup marks the sixth head-to-head contest this season. Ústí nad Labem holds a 3-2 advantage, but Opava won the most recent game on its home floor, an 85-81 decision Feb. 18. The series has been tight: four of the five games were decided by seven points or fewer.

Ústí nad Labem forward Isaac Davidson has been a steady contributor. In Wednesday’s win, he logged 28 minutes, scoring 18 points with five rebounds and two assists. He followed an 11-point effort in Tuesday’s loss and has averaged 12.3 points over his last six games. Davidson also scored 23 points on Apr. 9 against CEZ Nymburk, though Ústí fell 107-94.

Opava guard Jakub Sirina led his team Wednesday with 19 points, two rebounds and five assists in 23 minutes. He poured in 22 points Apr. 5 at Ústí nad Labem in a 98-95 loss. Sirina has been a key playmaker, averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 assists over his last four outings.

Opava will look to build on its Apr. 18 rout of Nova Hut Ostrava, a 100-68 victory in which Sirina had 12 points and six assists. The home side has won three of its last four, but its defense allowed 93 points in Wednesday’s defeat.

Ústí nad Labem has been inconsistent, winning two of its last five. Beyond Davidson, forward Nick Johnson contributed 18 points Wednesday, and Ladislav Pecka added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. The team’s depth was tested in an 80-85 loss at Decin on Apr. 18, where only three players reached double figures.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.
