Pierniki Toruń vs. GTK Gliwice

GLIWICE, Poland (Interstat) — GTK Gliwice, struggling with a 5-22 record across all competitions, hosts Pierniki Toruń (11-16) on Saturday in a Polish OBL matchup that pits two teams in vastly different positions as the season winds down.

Pierniki Toruń enters the game riding momentum from a 113-106 victory Tuesday over Slask Wroclaw. Guard Tayler Persons led the way with 30 points, five rebounds and six assists in 31 minutes. Persons, a key player to watch, had been limited to just one minute in an 82-83 loss to Dziki on April 10. For Toruń, the win snapped a two-game skid that included losses to Gornik Castle and Trefl Sopot. Forward Damian Kulig added 10 points and 10 rebounds against Slask, while guard Mateusz Szlachetka contributed 20 points and three assists. Toruń’s season has been inconsistent, with a 72-92 loss at Trefl Sopot and a 75-77 defeat at Slam Stal Ostrow among the lowlights. However, the team has shown resilience, winning four of its last six contests.

GTK Gliwice, meanwhile, has lost 10 of its last 11 games. The home team fell 82-86 at TBV Start Lublin on Sunday. Forward Ivan Almeida, a player to watch for Gliwice, recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes in that loss. Almeida has been a steady contributor despite the team’s struggles, posting 14 points against King Szczecin and eight at Legia Warszawa in recent outings. Center Wesley Gordon posted 14 points and 10 rebounds against Lublin, while forward Kuba Pisla scored 17. Gliwice’s last win came Feb. 6 at Slask Wroclaw. Since then, the team has lost 15 of 16, with the lone bright spot a 92-88 loss to Gornik Castle that was decided late.

The teams met Friday, with no score reported, and previously on Jan. 2, when Toruń won 90-88 at home. Saturday’s game marks the final head-to-head of the regular season for both sides. Toruń next hosts Asseco Gdynia on Tuesday, while Gliwice travels to Slupsk the same day. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday evening.
