Jaen Paraiso vs. Molina Basket

MOLINA, Spain (Interstat) — Two of the Spanish Segunda FEB’s bottom-feeders meet Saturday when Jaen Paraiso visits Molina Basket in a matchup of teams desperate to climb out of the league’s cellar.

Jaen Paraiso carries a 9-18 record across all competitions, while Molina Basket sits at 8-19. The teams met just six days ago on April 26, when Jaen Paraiso earned a 69-61 home victory. Guillermo Vergara led the visitors in that game with 18 points, two rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes, and the guard has been a consistent scoring threat for Jaen Paraiso.

Vergara’s recent performances show his volatility. He posted 18 points in that win over Molina Basket, then followed with eight points in a 73-69 victory against LBC Cocinas on April 19. He scored four points in a 102-71 loss at Iraurgi on April 12 and 11 points in an 84-91 defeat against Valladolid on April 5. Jaen Paraiso has split its last two games, sandwiching the Molina win with a 73-69 victory over LBC Cocinas on April 19.

Molina Basket counters with small forward Carlos Toledo, who nearly posted a double-double in the April 26 loss, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes. Toledo has been the team’s most reliable interior presence. In his four most recent outings, he registered 12 points and two rebounds in a 75-67 win over Getafe on April 18; 11 points and seven rebounds in a 82-52 loss at Gandia on April 11; and 10 points and three rebounds in a 77-58 defeat against Spanish Academy on April 4.

Molina Basket enters Saturday having lost three of its last four games, with the only win coming against Getafe. The team has struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in three of its past four contests.

Jaen Paraiso’s recent form has been equally uneven. After the April 26 win, the team lost four of its previous five games, including a 102-71 blowout at Iraurgi.

The head-to-head history is limited, with Saturday’s game marking the second meeting this month. Jaen Paraiso will look to sweep the season series behind Vergara and forward Javier Santa Barbara Carcelen, who had six points and 13 rebounds in the April 26 win.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. local time at Molina Basket’s home court.
