Paralimni vs. APOEL
APOEL, Paralimni Set for Pivotal Cypriot Division A Clash
NICOSIA, Cyprus (Interstat) — A crucial late-season matchup in the Cypriot Division A will see APOEL host Paralimni at Lefkotheo Indoor Arena on Wednesday.
The game carries significant weight for both teams’ positioning. APOEL (11-10 overall) looks to solidify a winning record and climb the table, while Paralimni (8-13) aims to snap a three-game losing skid and reignite its campaign.
The teams split their two meetings this season, setting the stage for a decisive rubber match. Paralimni dominated the first encounter 88-68 in November, but APOEL claimed a narrow 99-96 victory in the most recent clash on Feb. 7.
All eyes will be on a compelling backcourt duel between two high-scoring guards. Paralimni’s Caleb Asberry enters in spectacular form, coming off a 39-point, 10-rebound performance in a loss to Apollon BC last Sunday. Over his last three games, Asberry is averaging 29.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists, serving as his team’s undeniable offensive engine.
APOEL will counter with its own dynamic playmaker in Kenney Funderburk. The guard is averaging 21.3 points and 6.7 assists over his last three contests, including a 24-point effort in a win over Apollon BC last week. His ability to score and create will be central to APOEL’s attack.
The home side has shown inconsistency, alternating wins and losses in its last five games, most recently falling 80-75 to AEK Larnaca. Paralimni’s struggles are more pronounced, having lost five of its last six, though its lone win in that stretch was a convincing 89-73 victory over Morphou.
Beyond the star guards, supporting casts will be critical. Paralimni will need another strong interior presence from Tre Williams, who grabbed 16 rebounds last game. APOEL will rely on forwards Walter Whyte and Dom Pointer to provide balanced scoring and defense.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday afternoon in Nicosia, with both teams seeking a vital result to build momentum for the season’s final stretch.
