Mykolaiv vs. Kharkiv

Preview: Struggling Mykolaiv Faces League-Leading Kharkiv in SL Favorit Sport Clash

KHARKIV, Ukraine (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Saturday when the surging Kharkiv hosts the struggling Mykolaiv in a Ukrainian SL Favorit Sport basketball matchup.

Kharkiv (20-6), among the league’s elite, aims to rebound from a narrow last-second defeat. Mykolaiv (8-18), mired near the bottom of the standings, seeks to build on a rare winning streak.

The teams’ recent trajectories could not be more different. Kharkiv’s 20-win campaign hit a minor snag in its last outing, a heartbreaking 67-66 home loss to Cherkaski Mavpy on March 27. Prior to that, they had dominated, including a 101-71 rout of Rivne-Oshvsm on March 7.

Mykolaiv, however, arrives with momentum from its first back-to-back wins of the season, defeating VolynBasket 87-78 on March 28 and Goverla 84-78 on March 29. The challenge now is sustaining that form against the league’s best.

The head-to-head history heavily favors Kharkiv, which has won the last three meetings by an average margin of 15.3 points. This includes an 80-72 victory in Mykolaiv on Feb. 8.

A key matchup will feature in-form big man Alex Peacock of Mykolaiv against Kharkiv’s dynamic guard Olexiy Solovyov. Peacock is coming off consecutive double-doubles, averaging 11.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in the two wins. His all-around play, including a 13-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist performance against Goverla, has been central to Mykolaiv’s recent resurgence.

For Kharkiv, Solovyov looks to lead the bounce-back effort. He scored 14 points with 4 assists in the tough loss to Cherkaski Mavpy. Support will come from Mykyta Bezyma and Maxim Nikitin, who provided defensive presence in that game with five combined blocks.

Mykolaiv will need secondary scoring from Artem Vodolazskyi (18 points vs. Goverla) and Maxim Safonov to complement Peacock. Kharkiv, known for its balanced attack and stout defense, will rely on its depth and home-court advantage to reassert its dominance and sweep the season series.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Kharkiv.
