Niki Volou vs. Dafni Dafniou

Preview: Niki Volou at Dafni Dafniou

ATHENS (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt slides in the Greek HEBA A2 league standings will meet Saturday when Dafni Dafniou hosts Niki Volou.

The matchup at Dafniou’s home court features clubs with a combined 10 losses in their last 11 games. Dafni (10-16) has dropped three straight, most recently an 89-66 road defeat to Panerythraikos on March 18. Niki Volou (6-20) has lost four of its last five, including a 70-75 home loss to AE Psychiko Athens on March 18.

The season’s lone prior meeting, on Dec. 17, required overtime, with Dafni securing a 74-67 road victory.

A key battle will feature two of the league’s top recent performers. Niki Volou guard Tyler Johnson enters on a hot streak, averaging 21.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists over his last five games. He posted 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the narrow loss to Psychiko.

He will be countered by Dafni center Panagiotis Filippakos, who has been a consistent force, averaging 21.6 points and 7.2 rebounds over his last five outings. He scored 24 points in the loss to Panerythraikos.

For Niki Volou, support for Johnson came from forward Andreas Tsoumanis (18 points vs. Psychiko) and center Babatunde Akingbola. Dafni’s backcourt, led by Yiannis Tzivelekas (8 assists last game) and Josh Angle, will look to create opportunities against a Niki Volou defense that has allowed an average of 86.2 points during its five-game skid.

Despite its record, Dafni has been stronger at home this season, including a 95-87 victory over Egaleo on Feb. 28. Niki Volou’s last win was a similar 84-77 home result against Peira Machites on Feb. 28, but it has struggled on the road, losing those contests by an average margin of 22.8 points.

Saturday’s game represents a critical opportunity for both sides to gain momentum before the final stretch of the season. Tip-off is set for the evening of March 21, 2026.
