Preview: Sofadon Looks to Upset NE Megaridas in Greek A2 Clash

ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — A struggling Sofadon squad visits a surging NE Megaridas in a Greek HEBA A2 league matchup on Saturday.

The teams enter with contrasting momentum. The host NE Megaridas (12-7) has won three straight, including a 99-90 overtime road victory over Peira Machites last Saturday. The visiting Sofadon (5-14) snapped a three-game skid with an 80-71 home win against Dafni Dafniou on Jan. 31.

Sofadon will rely on forward Evdoxios Kapetakis, who is coming off a season-high 25-point performance in the win over Dafni. He added five rebounds in 26 minutes. Guard Mike Bothwell also impressed in that game, nearly recording a triple-double with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

NE Megaridas counters with guard Christos Pergoulis, who posted a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds in the overtime win at Peira Machites. Forward Aimilios Rozakis also had a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) in that contest, while point guard Kostas Dendrinos dished out eight assists.

The head-to-head history favors the hosts. In their first meeting this season on Oct. 29, NE Megaridas secured an 87-72 road victory over Sofadon.

Sofadon’s season has been marked by inconsistency, with only two wins in its last 10 games. The team has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 82.3 points per game during that stretch.

NE Megaridas, meanwhile, has found its rhythm after a mid-December slump, winning five of its last seven. The team’s offense has been potent, scoring 90 or more points in three of those victories.

A key battle will be in the frontcourt, where Sofadon’s Kapetakis will need to contend with NE Megaridas’s Rozakis and the rebounding prowess of Pergoulis. Containing Pergoulis’s all-around game will be a primary defensive focus for the visitors.

Following this game, NE Megaridas travels to face Ermis Schimatari on Wednesday. Sofadon continues its road trip at Peira Machites on the same night.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday evening at the NE Megaridas home arena.
