Clavijo vs. Leonesa

Clavijo, Leonesa Meet in Key Segunda FEB Matchup

LEÓN, Spain (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season clash with playoff implications is set for Saturday when Clavijo visits Leonesa in Spanish Segunda FEB basketball action.

The matchup features two teams moving in opposite directions. Clavijo (14-11) arrives with momentum, having won three of its last four games, including an 85-68 victory over CdG Valle de Egüés last Sunday. The home side, Leonesa (11-14), looks to stabilize after a 1-1 split in its last two outings, most recently an 85-73 road win at Círculo Gijón on April 11.

The visiting Clavijo will lean on forward Hugo Barbosa, who is coming off a strong all-around performance of 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes last week. Over his last four games, Barbosa has averaged 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, providing consistent production in the frontcourt.

Leonesa counters with versatile forward Aboubacar Traore, who has been a standout during the team’s recent stretch. Traore is averaging 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds over his last four contests, highlighted by an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double in a loss to Morón on April 5.

History favors Clavijo in the head-to-head series. The teams last met on Jan. 3, with Clavijo securing an 87-78 home victory. A similar result Saturday would solidify Clavijo’s position above .500 and deal a blow to Leonesa’s postseason aspirations.

For Clavijo, secondary scoring behind Barbosa will be key. Joan Pardina (13 points, nine rebounds) and Kevin Torres (15 points, five assists) were instrumental in last week’s win. Leonesa will need a repeat of its balanced attack from the Gijón win, where Eric Van Der Heijden (16 points) and Dylan Hayman (14 points) complemented Traore’s 15-point effort.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday evening at Leonesa’s home arena. With both teams separated by three games in the standings, the contest offers Leonesa a chance to close the gap and Clavijo an opportunity to create further distance in the playoff chase.
