Coastal Carolina rolls past Fordham for Beard’s first win

CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Deuce Bailey threw three touchdown passes, Dominic Lee-Knicely rushed for two scores, and Coastal Carolina beat FCS opponent Fordham 45-7 on Saturday night at Brooks Stadium, giving first-year coach Ryan Beard his first win with the Chanticleers. Fordham, which fell to 0-3, scored its only touchdown on Gunnar Smith’s 6-yard pass to Nodin Tracy. Coastal Carolina, now 1-1, answered through the air and on the ground, pulling away after an early Fordham score. Nico Cavanillas Alti added a 56-yard field goal, and the Chanticleers’ defense kept the Rams off the scoreboard the rest of the way. The game was played in Conway, South Carolina. Fordham returns to action at William & Mary on Sept. 19. Coastal Carolina visits Delaware on Sept. 19. The Chanticleers improved after a season-opening loss at West Virginia. Fordham previously lost to Colgate and North Dakota State. Coastal Carolina’s win marked Beard’s first victory as the program’s head coach. The Rams managed seven points, while Coastal Carolina totaled 45 points.
