Princeton at Columbia

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Columbia Lions will put their 2-0 record on the line Saturday when they host the Princeton Tigers in an NCAA Football Championship Division game at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium. Princeton enters at 1-1, while Columbia is 2-0. The forecast at game time calls for 82 degrees.

Princeton is coming off a 22-0 home win over Albany in its most recent game. Wyatt Becker led the Tigers at quarterback, completing 8 of 13 passes for 99 yards and rushing five times for 1 yard. Ty Ciongoli completed 3 of 4 passes for 65 yards and one touchdown, and Brady Clark punted once for minus-5 yards. Earlier this season, Princeton fell 21-14 at Bryant. Becker completed 15 of 29 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown in that game and added four carries for 26 yards.

Becker remains a player to watch for Princeton. He helped the Tigers control the Albany game and also produced through the air and on the ground against Bryant. Princeton will need another steady effort from him against a Columbia defense that has started the season with two wins.

Columbia is also unbeaten after a 20-17 win at Georgetown in its most recent game. Chase Goodwin threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns, completing 23 of 50 passes. Griffin Johnson ran 30 times for 121 yards, and Jahmir Pitcher added four carries for 32 yards. In an earlier 40-34 win over Lafayette, Goodwin completed 25 of 39 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns.

Goodwin is the player to watch for Columbia. He has given the Lions a productive passing attack, and Johnson and Pitcher provide balance in the running game. The Columbia defense will look to contain Princeton’s offense and protect its home field.

Princeton opened the season with a 21-14 loss at Bryant before defeating Albany 22-0 at home. Columbia opened with a 40-34 home win over Lafayette and followed with a 20-17 road win at Georgetown. The Lions have scored 40 and 20 points in their two wins, while the Tigers have scored 14 and 22 points.

Princeton’s upcoming schedule includes a trip to Wagner, a home game against Brown, a visit to Harvard, home games against Cornell, Dartmouth and Penn, and a trip to Yale. Columbia is set to visit Marist and Penn before hosting Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, Brown and Cornell. Both teams will continue NCAA Football Championship Division play after this meeting.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Columbia 27, Princeton 22.
