UNLV at Air Force

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Interstat) — UNLV will visit Air Force Saturday for an NCAA Football Bowl Division game at Falcon Stadium.

Air Force enters 4-1 and has won its past two games. The Falcons beat Northern Illinois 28-7 in their most recent game. Evan Medders ran 16 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns, Owen Allen added 100 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, and Kemper Hodges finished with 52 yards on 11 carries. Hodges, a fullback, is a player to watch for Air Force. He also ran for 48 yards on 10 carries in a win over Nevada and added 2 yards on one carry against Navy.

UNLV is 4-2 and has won three straight games. The Runnin’ Rebels beat North Dakota State 13-7 in their most recent game. Jai’Den Thomas led the way with 112 yards on 22 carries and caught two passes for 7 yards, while Darrien Jones added 10 yards on three carries. Quarterback Jackson Arnold is a player to watch for UNLV. Against North Dakota State, Arnold completed 8 of 16 passes for 77 yards and ran 19 times for 60 yards. Earlier this season, he passed for 177 yards and ran for 110 yards while accounting for five touchdowns in a win over California. He also passed for 290 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Akron.

Air Force’s only loss came against North Dakota State, 38-32. The Falcons also beat Navy 14-9, Nevada 36-33 and Duquesne 34-0. UNLV’s other results include a 39-31 win over California, a 38-10 win at Akron, a 44-6 loss at North Texas, a 21-6 win at Hawaii and a 27-21 loss to Memphis.

Air Force has leaned on its running game throughout the season. The Falcons have used multiple backs to wear down defenses. Hodges has been a steady short-yardage option, while Medders and Allen provide bigger-play ability. UNLV will counter with Arnold’s dual-threat skills and Thomas’ production out of the backfield.

The Rebels have scored at least 38 points in two of their past three wins. The Falcons will aim to limit UNLV’s explosive plays and keep the game on the ground. Air Force next plays at Wyoming before hosting Connecticut, then visits Army. UNLV next hosts Northern Illinois before welcoming Wyoming, then visits New Mexico.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Air Force to win 40-38. Air Force has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5, and the over/under is 48.
