Bucknell at Georgetown
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Bucknell will visit Georgetown on Saturday for an NCAA Football Championship Division matchup at Cooper Field. The Bison enter at 1-4, while the Hoyas are 0-4 and still seeking their first win of the season.
Bucknell will look to quarterback Christopher Dietrich to spark its offense. Dietrich threw for 56 yards in the Bison’s most recent game, a 59-0 loss at Pittsburgh, and for 8 yards in a loss to Penn. In the Pittsburgh game, Emmett Dowling added 49 passing yards, and Jack Sullivan ran for 31 yards while adding nine receiving yards. Dietrich has been among Bucknell’s most productive players in recent weeks, and the Bison will need him to help sustain drives against a Georgetown defense still searching for consistency.
The Bison opened the season with a loss at Richmond and a one-point home loss to Villanova before beating Virginia Military Institute. They then fell to Penn and Pittsburgh. Bucknell’s only victory came against VMI, 14-3. The Bison also dropped a 17-16 decision to Villanova and a 35-14 game at Richmond. Bucknell will try to find rhythm against a Georgetown team that has allowed points in bunches during its early schedule. The Bison are scheduled to host Lafayette in their next game.
Georgetown is led by quarterback Gavin Beard, who is a player to watch. Beard threw for 107 yards in the Hoyas’ most recent game, a 35-14 loss to Cornell. Jack Johnson totaled 145 yards and a touchdown, and Jayden Sumpter rushed for 62 yards in that contest. Georgetown has lost to Lehigh, Richmond, Columbia and Cornell. The Hoyas fell 45-14 to Lehigh, 24-21 at Richmond, 20-17 to Columbia and 35-14 to Cornell. Georgetown will need to protect the ball and generate explosive plays to keep pace with Bucknell. The Hoyas are set to visit Colgate in their next game.
Cooper Field in Washington, D.C., will host the matchup. Both teams are in the NCAA Football Championship Division and will be looking to build momentum. Bucknell has shown it can move the ball through Dietrich and Sullivan, but the Bison must avoid the slow starts that have hurt them. Georgetown, meanwhile, has shown flashes behind Beard and Johnson but has yet to put together a complete game. The Hoyas will lean on their home field as they chase their first victory of the season, while the Bison aim to even their record and snap a two-game slide.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Georgetown 33, Bucknell 28.
