Old Dominion at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. (Interstat) — Appalachian State will host Old Dominion in an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision game Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Mountaineers (3-1) will try to protect home field and continue a strong start against the Monarchs (1-4), who are seeking to snap a four-game losing streak. The game-time forecast calls for 53 degrees.

Old Dominion enters after a 42-10 loss at Georgia State in its most recent outing. Quinn Henicle is the player to watch for the Monarchs. In that game, he completed 8 of 15 passes for 49 yards and ran 10 times for 11 yards. Earlier this season against East Carolina, Henicle completed 8 of 20 passes for 94 yards, ran 16 times for 73 yards and scored one touchdown. Ryan Huff completed 3 of 8 passes for 18 yards, while Jaxon Potter completed 2 of 5 passes for 12 yards and ran twice for 4 yards in the Georgia State loss.

The Monarchs opened the season with a 31-10 home win over Norfolk State before dropping four straight. Old Dominion fell 44-21 at Virginia Tech, 20-17 at home to East Carolina, 46-20 at home to James Madison and 42-10 at Georgia State. The Monarchs will need better production from a quarterback group that has rotated around Henicle and will face a Mountaineers defense looking to force mistakes.

Appalachian State enters after a 41-31 loss at North Carolina State in its most recent game. Malachi Singleton is the player to watch for the Mountaineers. Against North Carolina State, he completed 26 of 38 passes for 317 yards, ran for 7 yards and accounted for three touchdowns. Earlier against Charlotte, Singleton completed 28 of 42 passes for 331 yards, ran for 14 yards, caught one pass for 14 yards and accounted for two scores. Jaquari Lewis ran eight times for 32 yards, caught two passes for 28 yards and scored once against North Carolina State.

The Mountaineers have won three of four, including a 55-3 home victory over Maine, a 27-24 road win at East Carolina and a 26-21 home win over Charlotte. Appalachian State will aim to keep its offense balanced behind Singleton while containing Henicle and Old Dominion’s quarterback rotation. A fast start could help the Mountaineers control tempo in front of their home crowd. Both teams will look to establish rhythm early and avoid turnovers that could swing field position.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Old Dominion 38, Appalachian State 35. Old Dominion has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of +9.5. The over/under is 47.5.
