Utah finished with balance on offense and enough pressure on defense to remain perfect. The Utes improved to 5-0 and continued their strong start to the season. Kansas fell to 2-3 and will look to regroup after a road loss in which Marshall topped 300 passing yards but the Jayhawks were unable to match Utah’s late scoring burst. Utah’s offense produced big plays through Dampier, Parker and Johnson, while the defense limited Kansas after the Jayhawks had kept the game close. Utah’s special teams also kept Kansas from gaining momentum in the return game.

Kansas finished with 333 passing yards from Marshall, but the Jayhawks managed little on the ground outside of Marshall’s 21 yards and Dupree’s 10. Pickett’s 134 yards led all receivers. Edwards scored on a 3-yard reception. McMillan’s 89-yard day included a 29-yard touchdown. Cox’s 41-yard catch and Cure’s 30-yard grab helped Kansas move the ball, but the Jayhawks were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Utah’s defensive front generated pressure, and Chenault’s interception helped stop a Kansas drive.

The game simulator had projected a final score of Utah 58, Kansas 20. The ELO system had projected Utah with a 96 percent probability to win. Kansas had been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of +15.5. The total score of 65 went over the over/under line of 49.5.
