Ole Miss at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE (Interstat) — Ole Miss will visit Vanderbilt on Saturday for an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision game at FirstBank Stadium, a matchup of two teams trying to steady their seasons after recent conference losses. The Rebels enter at 3-1, while the Commodores are 3-2. The forecast for game time calls for 83 degrees.

Ole Miss most recently fell 52-28 at Florida. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 25 of 34 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran seven times for 44 yards and another score. Makhi Frazier added eight carries for 42 yards and one reception for 3 yards. JT Lindsey ran 11 times for 31 yards. Earlier this season, the Rebels beat LSU 32-24, Charlotte 41-9 and Louisville 41-38.

Vanderbilt most recently lost 38-14 at Georgia. Blaze Berlowitz, a player to watch for the Commodores, completed 12 of 23 passes for 190 yards and ran eight times for 37 yards and a touchdown. Whit Muschamp completed both of his passes for 18 yards. Sedrick Alexander ran eight times for 35 yards and a touchdown. In Vanderbilt’s previous game, a 21-15 loss at Auburn, Berlowitz had one reception for no yards. Earlier this season, the Commodores beat North Carolina State 35-31, Delaware 35-26 and Austin Peay 28-9.

Ole Miss will rely on Chambliss to direct the offense through the air and on the ground. Frazier and Lindsey give the Rebels options in the running game, while the passing attack will test Vanderbilt’s secondary. The Commodores will counter with Berlowitz, who has been involved as a passer and runner. Alexander provides a rushing threat, and Muschamp could see snaps in reserve.

FirstBank Stadium is expected to host a competitive game between Southeastern Conference opponents. Ole Miss is scheduled to host Missouri next before visiting Texas. Vanderbilt is set to host Arkansas before traveling to Kentucky. Both teams will look to avoid falling further behind in the league race. Ole Miss’ upcoming schedule also includes Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, Wofford and Mississippi State. Vanderbilt’s remaining slate includes Mississippi State, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. Ole Miss has scored at least 28 points in each of its four games. Vanderbilt has scored at least 14 points in each of its five games.
