Oregon State at Colorado State
FORT COLLINS (Interstat) — Oregon State and Colorado State will meet Saturday at Canvas Stadium in an NCAA Football Bowl Division matchup between two 2-2 teams. The Beavers travel to face the Rams in a game that could hinge on quarterback play and which offense can sustain drives.
Oregon State enters after a 33-7 win at UTEP on Saturday. Braden Atkinson led the Beavers, completing 24 of 34 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns while adding an 8-yard run. AJ Newberry rushed 11 times for 111 yards and caught one pass for 6 yards and a score. Cornell Hatcher Jr. added six carries for 19 yards. Atkinson has thrown for more than 300 yards in each of his past four games. Against Montana, he completed 22 of 30 passes for 333 yards and five touchdowns. Against Texas Tech, he completed 29 of 49 passes for 399 yards and two touchdowns. At Houston, he completed 29 of 48 passes for 376 yards and a touchdown. His ability to stretch the field will test Colorado State’s defense.
Colorado State returns home after a 59-45 loss at Texas-San Antonio on Saturday. K’saan Farrar completed 29 of 46 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns and ran five times for 4 yards. Mel Brown totaled 12 carries for 90 yards, six receptions for 26 yards, three kickoff returns for 132 yards and a touchdown. Durell Robinson ran 13 times for 43 yards and scored twice. Against BYU, Farrar completed 13 of 23 passes for 70 yards and ran for 12 yards with a tackle. The Rams have shown offensive balance, with Brown and Robinson complementing Farrar.
The Beavers and Rams both sit at 2-2, making the nonconference meeting important for momentum. Oregon State has wins over UTEP and Montana and losses to Texas Tech and Houston. Colorado State has defeated Southern Utah and Wyoming while falling to BYU and Texas-San Antonio. Oregon State will look to Atkinson to keep the passing game moving, while Colorado State will rely on Farrar and its running backs to control possession. The Rams’ home crowd and Canvas Stadium setting could play a role in a close matchup. Both teams will seek a third win before moving deeper into their schedules. Oregon State’s offense will need to protect the ball, and Colorado State’s defense will aim to slow Atkinson.
The Rams have been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -6.5. The over/under is 62.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Colorado State 40, Oregon State 34.
