Michigan at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — Michigan will visit Minnesota on Saturday in an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision game at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, with both teams carrying 3-1 records into the matchup.

The Wolverines are the visiting team, while the Golden Gophers will be the home team. Michigan enters after a narrow 20-19 loss to Iowa on Saturday at Michigan. Quarterback Bryce Underwood led the Wolverines in that game, passing for 276 yards and accounting for two touchdowns while adding 36 rushing yards on 14 carries. Jordan Marshall ran 11 times for 59 yards, and Savion Hiter added 53 rushing yards on 14 attempts and caught one pass for 19 yards.

Underwood has been Michigan’s most productive offensive player throughout the early season. He passed for 223 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-17 win over UTEP, threw for 111 yards and ran for 87 yards and a touchdown in a 17-10 win over Oklahoma, and passed for 170 yards with one touchdown while rushing for 47 yards and another score in a 13-12 win over Western Michigan. His ability to extend plays with his legs could test a Minnesota defense that has had mixed results against dual-threat quarterbacks.

Minnesota also sits at 3-1 after a 27-24 win at Washington on Saturday. Quarterback Drake Lindsey completed 21 of 29 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns in that victory. TJ Thomas ran for 78 yards and caught two passes for 9 yards, while Darius Taylor added 36 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards. Lindsey also threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-7 win over Akron, giving Minnesota a reliable passing threat heading into the conference matchup.

The Golden Gophers opened the season with a 59-7 win over Eastern Illinois before falling 38-13 to Mississippi State. They rebounded with the Akron win and then edged Washington on the road. Minnesota’s offense has shown balance, with Lindsey directing the passing game and Thomas and Taylor contributing in both the run and short-passing games.

The game will be played at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. Both programs are looking to improve to 4-1 in what could be a closely contested matchup. Michigan will aim to rebound from its first loss, while Minnesota will try to build on a dramatic road victory. The meeting could hinge on which quarterback handles pressure better and which defense limits explosive plays.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Minnesota 26, Michigan 24. Minnesota has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -5.5. The over/under is 43.5.
