William & Mary at Duke

DURHAM (Interstat) — Duke will put its unbeaten record on the line Saturday when it hosts William & Mary in an NCAA Football Bowl Division game at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Blue Devils are 3-0, while the Tribe enter 2-2.

Duke’s most recent outing was a 35-7 home win over Stanford. Duke’s player to watch, quarterback Walker Eget, completed 14 of 24 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown, and ran three times for 8 yards. Running back Nate Sheppard carried 23 times for 154 yards, caught one pass for 2 yards and scored three total touchdowns. CJ Campbell Jr. added nine rushes for 42 yards. Duke opened the season with a 17-3 home win over Tulane and a 31-27 road win at Illinois.

William & Mary is coming off a 52-27 home loss to Fordham. Winston Watkins, the player to watch for the Tribe, completed 19 of 26 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew King ran 16 times for 122 yards, caught two passes for 29 yards and scored once. Josh Miller added nine carries for 41 yards, one catch for 9 yards and a 12-yard kickoff return. Earlier this season, Watkins threw for 95 yards and ran for 20 in a 22-15 home win over Delaware State. The Tribe also lost 44-20 at Lehigh and won 35-32 at Villanova.

Watkins has been central to William & Mary’s offense. In the loss to Fordham, he frequently connected with King and Miller. Duke’s defense will look to contain him after limiting Stanford to seven points. Eget has been efficient for the Blue Devils, with Sheppard providing a strong rushing complement. Duke’s offense has scored at least 31 points in two of its three games.

The weather forecast for game time calls for 73 degrees at Wallace Wade Stadium. The game is scheduled for Saturday.

After facing Duke, William & Mary will return home to play Holy Cross. The Tribe will then visit North Carolina Central, host Georgetown, visit Colgate, host Lafayette, host Bucknell and visit Richmond. Duke will next visit Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils then host North Carolina, visit Virginia, host Boston College, visit North Carolina State, visit Miami (FL), host Clemson and visit Wake Forest.
