The play came with 10:11 remaining in the opening period, and Jack O’Connor added the extra point. Osborne struck again later in the first quarter, rushing middle for a 5-yard touchdown with 6:19 remaining, and O’Connor’s kick made it a two-score game. Southern Mississippi got on the board before the end of the quarter when Creighton Wilbanks made a 47-yard field goal with 30 seconds left. Connecticut added to its lead in the second quarter on a 46-yard field goal by O’Connor, then extended the margin when C. The Golden Eagles moved the ball at times but could not keep pace with Connecticut’s scoring runs. The final statistics showed Connecticut with the more efficient passing game and a rushing attack that produced key touchdowns. Southern Mississippi finished with more tackles from its defense but could not slow the Huskies enough to stay within striking distance.
