BEAUMONT, Texas (Interstat) — Aiden McCown threw three touchdown passes to lead Lamar to a 21-14 victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

McCown completed 17 of 32 passes for 183 yards and rushed for 17 yards. Davin Driskell caught five passes for 34 yards and two touchdowns, while Blake Thomas had three catches for 44 yards and a score.

Lamar scored once in the first quarter and took a 14-7 halftime lead on a McCown-to-Thomas touchdown. The Cardinals extended the lead early in the fourth quarter on McCown’s 5-yard pass to Driskell. Abilene Christian answered with a touchdown, but Lamar held on.

Tucker Parks went 4 of 8 for 65 yards and added 22 yards rushing for the Wildcats. John David Black was 15-of-25 for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Romelo Boykin caught five passes for 54 yards and a touchdown, and Cristian Driver had five receptions for 56 yards and a score.

Dillon Williams led Abilene Christian with 13 tackles, and Javeon Wilcox had 12. Lamar’s defense recorded two interceptions.

Lamar improved to 1-0; Abilene Christian fell to 0-1.
