Indiana Completes Perfect Season With Dominant Championship Victory
ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Indiana Hoosiers completed a perfect season, overwhelming the Oregon Ducks 56-22 to claim a national championship on Friday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza was nearly flawless, passing for 177 yards and five touchdowns without an interception to power the offense before a crowd of 75,604. The Hoosiers scored 21 points in the second quarter to seize control.
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore threw for 285 yards and two scores, but an interception returned for a touchdown by Indiana’s D’Angelo Ponds on the game’s first play set an immediate tone. The Ducks could not keep pace as Indiana’s defense recorded three sacks.
The victory caps a 15-0 season for Indiana, while Oregon finishes 13-2.
