Prairie View at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — A pivotal late-season showdown with conference title implications is set for Saturday when the Jackson State Tigers host the Prairie View A&M Panthers at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Both teams enter with identical 9-3 overall records, though Jackson State’s 9-2 mark in conference play gives them a slight edge over Prairie View’s 9-3 league record. The clash features two of the nation’s most dynamic quarterbacks, setting the stage for a potential offensive shootout.

Prairie View, the visiting Panthers, ride a three-game winning streak fueled by an explosive offense that has averaged 54.3 points during that span. Quarterback Cameron Peters has been nearly flawless, completing 53 of 58 passes for 897 yards and nine touchdowns in those victories, while adding 87 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground. His most recent performance was a 59-6 rout of Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 22.

The home-standing Jackson State Tigers look to rebound from a 27-21 road loss to rival Alcorn State that snapped a four-game win streak. Dual-threat quarterback Jared Lockhart has been consistently productive, accounting for multiple touchdowns in each of the last three games. In the loss to Alcorn State, he passed for 194 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score.

The Tigers’ defense, which allowed just 13.5 points per game during their recent win streak, will face its toughest test in weeks against Peters and the Panthers’ high-octane attack. Conversely, Prairie View’s defense, which has posted two shutouts this season, must contain Lockhart’s versatility.

Historically, games in this series have been tightly contested, adding another layer of intensity to Saturday’s matchup. The venue, Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, is expected to be near capacity, providing a significant home-field advantage for the Tigers.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Jackson State is projected to win a high-scoring affair, 42-32. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025.
