Vanderbilt at Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — An in-state rivalry with significant Southeastern Conference East Division implications will unfold Saturday at Neyland Stadium as the Tennessee Volunteers host the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Vanderbilt (9-2, 5-2 SEC) enters the contest with the better record, riding a three-game winning streak that includes a dominant 45-17 victory over Kentucky last week. The Commodores’ offense has been explosive, led by quarterback Diego Pavia, who threw for 484 yards and five touchdowns while adding 48 rushing yards in the win.
Tennessee (8-3, 4-3), however, is coming off an impressive 31-11 road win at Florida. The Volunteers’ ground game was the story, with DeSean Bishop rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite Vanderbilt’s higher ranking and superior record, Interstat’s game simulator projects a 36-15 victory for the home-standing Volunteers. Betting markets reflect a tight contest, with Vanderbilt installed as a slight underdog at +2.5 points. The over/under is set at 66.5.
The game will be a contrast in offensive styles. Vanderbilt’s high-flying, multi-quarterback attack, which has scored at least 45 points in four games this season, will be tested by a Tennessee defense that has held its last two opponents to a combined 20 points. The Volunteers will look to control the clock with their powerful running game against a Commodores defense that has been susceptible at times.
A Vanderbilt win would cap a remarkable regular season and put them in contention for a major bowl berth. For Tennessee, a victory would secure a strong nine-win regular season and bolster their own postseason resume.
