Towson rallies late to edge Campbell in shootout

(Interstat) — In a stunning and chaotic finish at John Kachofa Stadium in Mufulira, the Towson Tigers scored 14 unanswered points in the final quarter to erase a late deficit and defeat the Campbell Fightin’ Camels 35 to 31 on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The victory secured a .500 season record for the Tigers, who finished at 6 wins and 6 losses, while the Fightin’ Camels concluded a difficult campaign with a record of 2 wins and 10 losses.

The game, which defied statistical projections that heavily favored Towson, was a tale of two halves defined by explosive plays and a dramatic late-game comeback.

Campbell established an early lead, capitalizing on their opening drive with a 38-yard field goal from Alex Crabb to go ahead 3 to 0. After trading possessions, Towson responded with a methodical drive capped by a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Andrew Indorf to receiver Lukkas Londono, tying the game at 7 to 7.

The Fightin’ Camels immediately answered. Quarterback Kamden Sixkiller, who finished the day completing 27 of 37 passes for 258 yards, engineered a 75-yard drive. He found Daniel Lopes on an 18-yard scoring strike with just seven seconds remaining in the opening quarter to reclaim the lead at 10 to 7.

The second quarter saw Campbell extend its advantage. Following a critical interception by Campbell linebacker Lakeem Rudolph, the Fightin’ Camels needed just five plays to find the end zone again, this time on a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Naieem Kearney to make the score 17 to 7.

Towson, however, refused to fade before halftime. Indorf led two scoring drives in the final four minutes of the half. He first connected with John Dunmore on a 12-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 17 to 14. Then, after a defensive stop and with time winding down, Indorf masterfully moved the Tigers down the field, finding Londono for a 4-yard touchdown with just nine seconds left. The score sent the teams into the locker room with Towson holding a narrow 21 to 17 lead.

The third quarter belonged entirely to Campbell. The Fightin’ Camels embarked on a marathon 15-play, 75-yard drive that consumed nearly six minutes, culminating in a 1-yard touchdown plunge by Ethan Lawrence. The score put Campbell back in front 24 to 21, a lead they would carry into the final period.

Campbell appeared to seize control early in the fourth quarter. Another sustained drive, this one covering 75 yards in 11 plays, was finished by Lawrence’s second rushing touchdown of the day, an 8-yard run that extended the Campbell lead to 31 to 21 with 11:54 remaining.

Facing a 10-point deficit, the Tigers’ offense, which had been stymied for much of the second half, suddenly came to life. The ensuing drive featured a stunning trick play, as quarterback Winston Watkins took a snap and launched a 64-yard touchdown pass to tight end CJ Schaeffer. The explosive play brought Towson back within three points at 31 to 28.

Both defenses stiffened on the next several possessions, setting the stage for a dramatic final Towson drive. With the clock ticking under two minutes, Andrew Indorf methodically moved the Tigers down the field. The drive faced multiple critical downs but was kept alive by key completions to Zay Perkins and John Dunmore. The game-winning play came with just 38 seconds on the clock, as Indorf found Cleveland Charlton for an 18-yard touchdown pass, pushing Towson ahead 35 to 31 after a tense automatic review confirmed the score.

Campbell had one final, desperate chance. Sixkiller moved the Fightin’ Camels near midfield, but a botched play involving offensive lineman Freddie Pelling, who lost five yards on a fumble, effectively ended the game as time expired.

For Towson, Andrew Indorf was instrumental in the comeback, throwing for four touchdowns, while his counterpart Winston Watkins contributed significantly with his arm and legs, accounting for two total touchdowns. Campbell’s offense was led by the efficient passing of Kamden Sixkiller and a balanced rushing attack featuring Ethan Lawrence and Naieem Kearney. Receiver Randall King was a primary target for Sixkiller, hauling in eight catches for 121 yards in the losing effort.

The comeback victory provided a winning conclusion to Towson’s season, while Campbell was left to ponder a fourth consecutive close loss to end the year.
