Southern at Alcorn State
LORMAN, Miss. (Interstat) — Two teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the Alcorn State Braves host the Southern Jaguars in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup at Spinks-Casem Stadium.
Alcorn State (3-6) enters on a high note, coming off a 33-14 road victory over Texas Southern last Saturday. The win was the Braves’ second in a row, having also defeated Mississippi Valley State 32-10 on Oct. 25. Their offense has found a rhythm, averaging 32.5 points during the two-game winning streak.
Conversely, Southern (1-8) is mired in a six-game losing skid. The Jaguars are looking to rebound from a 40-21 loss at Arkansas-Pine Bluff last weekend. Southern’s offense has struggled for consistency, utilizing quarterbacks Ashton Strother and Cam’Ron McCoy in the recent loss. Running back Trey Holly has been a bright spot, contributing both on the ground and as a receiver.
The Jaguars’ lone victory this season was a 34-29 win at Mississippi Valley State on Aug. 30. Alcorn State’s three wins have all come against SWAC opponents, including a 24-20 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the same team that just defeated Southern by 19 points.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Alcorn State is projected to extend its winning streak, with a forecasted final score of 41-32.
Kickoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
