Georgetown at Bucknell

LEWSIBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Naiteitei Mose returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown with 12 seconds remaining to seal a 31-24 victory for Georgetown over Bucknell in a Patriot League matchup on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

The Bison, trailing by a touchdown late, were driving for a potential tying score when Bucknell quarterback Christopher Dietrich’s pass was picked off by Mose, a linebacker from Euless, Texas, who weaved his way through traffic for the clinching score. The play was automatically reviewed to confirm the runner was inbounds, and the call stood.

The dramatic finish secured a win that improved Georgetown’s record to 3-3, while Bucknell fell to 4-3.

The game was a back-and-forth affair after Georgetown established an early lead. The Hoyas struck first with a 10-yard touchdown run by Savion Hart late in the opening quarter. Hart was the workhorse for the Georgetown offense, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Bucknell responded with two second-quarter touchdowns to draw even at 14-14 at halftime. The first came on a 1-yard pass from Dietrich to tight end Charlie Kreinbucher, and the second was a 7-yard scramble by Dietrich himself.

Georgetown reclaimed the lead in the third quarter when quarterback Dez Thomas II connected with Hassan Mahasin on a 31-yard touchdown pass. Thomas finished an efficient afternoon, completing 16 of 21 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown, adding 11 yards on the ground.

A 35-yard field goal by Thomas Anderson early in the fourth quarter extended the Hoyas’ lead to 24-14.

Bucknell mounted a comeback, cutting the deficit to three points. Dietrich found TJ Cadden for a 20-yard touchdown pass, and after a defensive stop, Matt Schearer kicked a 27-yard field goal to make the score 24-23 with just over three minutes to play.

The Bison defense forced a Georgetown punt, setting up the final, fateful drive for the home team. Dietrich, who passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns, was moving the offense before Mose’s game-sealing play.

Jimmy Kibble was the primary receiving target for Georgetown, hauling in eight catches for 115 yards. For Bucknell, Tariq Thomas rushed for 93 yards on 12 carries, while Cadden was a versatile threat, totaling 76 receiving yards and a touchdown to go with 59 yards on kick returns and 54 yards on punt returns.

The win gives Georgetown momentum heading into its game at Lehigh on Nov. 1. Bucknell looks to rebound when it travels to face Fordham on Nov. 8.
